We will gather in the front of the General Store at 9:30am for a quick driver’s meeting. The group will depart Fontana at 9:45 sharp. From Fontana we will take a scenic drive with a bathroom break at the Wayah Road put-in on the Nantahala River. We’ll cross over Wayah Bald heading toward Franklin and continue through the Cullasaja gorge into Highlands.
After lunch at Mountain Fresh in downtown Highlands you have options. Mountain Fresh Menus:
1. If you prefer to return on your own, you can retrace the route and stop at Bridal Veil Falls for a photo (note that you can no longer drive under the falls), and/or stop at Dry Falls (there is parking fee with limited space available) and take the walk down and behind the waterfall.
2. If you prefer to continue with Steve and Lester, you’ll have 1-hour to explore Main Street. Then, we’ll take a different route through Bucks Creek back to highway 441 and 74 with a fuel stop on the return to Fontana.
