Great Smoky Mountains National Park Loop with Breakfast in Townsend, TN
This drive goes from Fontana Village out to Cherokee following NC-28 & US-74. We then follow US-441 up through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and just before we reach Gatlinburg, TN, we turn onto Old State Highway 73 / Little River Road. From there we continue through the Great Smoky Mountains and head into Townsend, TN. We stop for breakfast at the Smoky Junction Restaurant. After breakfast, we continue following 73 to the Foothills Parkway, and then take that all the way down to US-129. Then we head back to Fontana by driving the Dragon and NC-28! This is a very nice, scenic drive and it is a great way to start your MINIs on the Dragon experience!
This drive will take about 4½ hours to complete including a 1 hour stop for breakfast. Smoky Junction Restaurant is very inexpensive, with the most expensive breakfast meal costing $8.99, but still delivering amazing food. The drive from Fontana to Smoky Junction Restaurant will take about 2 hours and 15 minutes, and the return drive from Smoky Junction to Fontana will take about 1 hour 15 minutes.
