A short one hour drive from Fontana that includes some lesser known twisties will find us at the Swain County Visitors Center and free Heritage Museum, then we will continue on to the Deep Creek section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Deep Creek is located just a few miles north of downtown Bryson City. Deep Creek is home to three cascading waterfalls - Tom Branch, Indian Creek and Juney Whank - which can all be accessed easily by venturing down the Waterfall Loop, a 2.4-mile, easy hike that passes all three falls. Or you can take an easy 1/4 mile walk on old logging road to just one of the waterfalls. The adjoining large picnic area has public restrooms and is a great place to walk dogs.

After we leave Deep Creek, we will return to Bryson City for lunch (location TBD). Return to Fontana will be on your own.

This drive will follow posted speed limits and is suitable for those new to MOTD or unused to mountain motoring.

Note: Beginning March 1, 2023, all vehicles parking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for more than 15 minutes will require a valid parking tag. 100% of all proceeds from the new parking tag program are used to protect and preserve the park for generations to come, You can purchase your annual tag online and have it shipped right to your house or get one at a visitor center. Daily and weekly parking tags will be available for purchase by credit card from automated fee machines available year round, 24 hours a day at these locations: Deep Creek parking area, Newfound Gap overlook, Oconaluftee Visitor Center, Sugarlands Visitor Center, Cades Cove entrance parking area, and Metcalf Bottoms picnic area.
